Al's procedure

We are all at home watching TV in bed. Al has her leg propped up and seems comfortable. Campbell is sitting between us in her Boppy looking around. Marley is laying between Al and me with her back resting on the Boppy and her butt against my leg, so she knows where everyone is and what they're doing. We got home from the hospital late yesterday evening. Al's surgery went well. Here is my best explanation of what happened in the surgery: The first thing Dr. Dugas did was scope her knee with two small holes on the front of her leg. There was a lot of fluid and other gunk in there that he cleaned out. He also decided to shave out the vast majority (98+%) of her synovium. He then flipped her over to work on the back of her knee and remove the cyst with the help of a vascular surgeon. Dugas preferred to have the vascular surgeon help because the cyst was so large it was pressing nerves and an artery. The cyst came out in multiple pieces because it was so large it couldn't all be seen on the MRI. Dr. Dugas felt that this cyst had ruptured about 15 times. The whole procedure took about three hours.Al stayed overnight at St. Vincent's with a morphine pump to help with the pain. She was taken off that Saturday morning and is now only on a low dose of Loritab. Dr. Dugas feels pretty good about the condition of Al's knee. He said there appears to be no deterioration of the cartilage. He feels that removing the synovium will buy us ample time to build our family until Al will have to be on her RA medicine.
I took the GMAT yesterday and scored well enough to get in anywhere around here and anywhere I'd want to go. I could have done better, but I'm satisfied with it considering what all has been going on around me. We will continue to team up with the help of MeMe, Meme, and everyone else until Al is mobile again. She begins physical therapy tomorrow.
